Hanging Out in Occupied Virginia

A very southern-sympathetic friend of my brother Tom's refers to Northern Virginia as "occupied Virginia". I've come to see it similarly recently, except now it is occupied by the Obarmy.

In a bit of civil disobedience to the occupiers, I sported this shirt out to dinner in the neighborhood last night--got quite a few looks and a couple of very positive comments.

UPDATE: Yes, those are still my white-trash Christmas lights on the balcony.

And here I thought all those women dining al fresco last night were staring at my impressive grey mane.

I like that. Occupied Virginia. Virginia is two states, Northern Virginia and the rest of Virginia. I think that the interesting thing happening now is that Northern Virginia may be finding cracks in its base.

Try Living in occupied DC. Remember, nobody is supposed to be living there. I don't think that in 1790 when DC was established as a compromise George Washington thought that one day the city would lose all semblance of the ideals he had worked so hard to establish. And I am not talking on a federal level.

Your friend should copyright that.

Good idea. I love sporting my Viva La Reagan Revolution t-shirt in Whole Foods. Those wimps with their baby slings along with their middle linebacker wives really give me the evil eye. Screw 'em!
I have a question though, I know you're from Philly, so aren't you part of the problem? Considering most of your family has moved down South, do you consider yourself Southern? It's ok if you do, glad to have you, just curious.

CW, as long as the lights are clear, it's OK to have them up. It's outdoor summer lighting.

When native born Virginians question MY claim as a "Virginian", I point out that they had it easy, they popped out of the womb into the Old Dominion.

I, on the other hand, worked hard to be a Virginian. I had to spend over 30 years of my life in New Jersey (at least it was South Jersey) and was then sentenced to Texas for a three year stint before I moved to Virginia.

I EARNED the right to reply to a European (when they hear my accent and ask whether I am an American), "Suh, I am a Virginian".

The CW on the other hand has been a resident of New Jersey for his entire life, until he became a ctizen of the People's Republic of Maryland.

Your affinity for lighting outside of the holidays makes me wonder if it wasn't your tent that had the generator that made too much noise.

Im sorry to say that Dear Va.is occupied. The liberals in Northern Va. and Richmond are making laws for us in the Appalachians who still hunt, fish and carry guns as part of our everyday attire. The crime rate in the county where I live is practically nothing but our Governor wants to take our guns so we can be trampled upon and forced to live in fear. That just doesn't sit well with our hard working but laid back country way of life. Sincerely J.C.S. Va. CSA
