The Slog is the GOP's Fault

Take a look at this piece from the Wall Street Journal; the sub-headline says it all.  In 2008, 80% of the GOP delegates were chosen before March.  This year, only 13%.  I realize it makes people feel good to say that Romney is a weak front-runner, but the very system in which he is participating is designed to enable a longer race.  Reaping what we sow....

I'm tired of the 'weak front runner' and 'he can't close the deal' storylines. If he were so weak someone would be beating him.

What's the big deal? This is the process. At least when our primary rolls around we actually might have a say for a change.

He's a weak front runner because he's a weak conservative. He's strong on TARP, he's strong on managed health care, he's strong on compromise, he's strong on bailouts for big business, but he's weak on middle class conservative issues and they know it. Romney's only supporters are big business, country club Republicans, the same ones who supported Ford, Bush I, Dole and McCain. He's a weak front runner because he's not a conservative and it will take the audible voice of God to get me to vote for him in the general. Maybe after this defeat the Country Club Republicans will at last know where their support (and maybe their supposed principles) truly lie.

Anon my man, your heart is in the right place but you are wrong. If Obama gets another term we are done, socialism will be baked into the cake and the Republicans will be running on how they can run the welfare state better than the Dems. Don't cut off your nose to spite your face, take what you can get.

I'm bemused by all this talk of Romney of being weak - particularly by the wishful thinking lefties on CNN like Donna Brazile and Hilary Rosen. Romney is Barack's worst nightmare. He's smart, moderate and well spoken. He's the perfect foil to Barack's BS hope and change mantra from the 2008 campaign that is now dead and won't fool people this time. He's rational and realistic. He's got the nomination in the bag - has more delegates than all the others put together by far. And contrary to all this "lack of principle" baggage he's carrying with the more conservative elements of the Republican Party (who will vote for him on election Day, guaranteed) he has no so such problem with the independents who decide presidential elections. So Donna and Hilary will try to convince Republicans that Romney is weak (as are lots of misguided conservative commentators) but I'm not buying it. November is a long way away. Romney only grows more attractive with time. His resume in the public and private sector is unmatched by any man on the planet. He'll make a GREAT President and I truly believe he will be the next President unless a miracle economic recovery occurs between now and November.
