Uh, Miss? Your 15 Minutes Are Up

Thrust into the public eye by a dimwitted House Minority Leader and further advanced by a boorish radio host, Sandra Fluke has taken to CNN.com to declare that she will not be silenced. The law student (when exactly does this woman study?) claims that “smears” and public condemnation by other critics “are obvious attempts to distract from meaningful policy discussions and to silence women’s voices regarding their own health care,” which have “clearly failed.”

She continues to miss the point, a point that's already been exhaustively covered and is not the point of this post. That point would be that it's time to get off the stage, Ms. Fluke. You're not really a sympathetic figure.

Would you please show a little sensitivity, please?! This poor woman just returned from a vacation in Carmel and she's probably jet lagged.

It has been well said (by a person unknown) that, while we used to suffer from social evils, we now suffer from the remedies for them. The difference is that, while in former times the social evils were gradually disappearing with the growth of wealth, the remedies we have introduced are beginning to threaten the continuance of that growth of wealth on which all future improvement depends.

I am woman, hear me roar
And if I want to be a whore
You will have to pay to put me on the pill
Cause I've heard it all before
When we do it on the floor
I will never pay another condom bill

With apologies to Helen Ready
