Please, talk amongst yourselves.

Avoided it. During his exile/relative obscurity of the past few years, I never thought of him - not even when I heard a song of his - and the earth continued to revolve around the sun.

A great entertainer for teeny-boppers. An innocent to the ways of the world. "Each man's death diminishes me" But to watch the overblown coverage of his death and funeral, a less informed person would think he was the second coming. Not!

I half-expected the gold casket to be shot into orbit at the end to complete the spectacle. Come to think of it, that would have been kind of cool to watch.

What was disappointing is that Fox News bought into the whole nonsense with their continuous coverage. I expected better of them.

I loved the "Thriller" video, but that was due more to John Landis the director than MJ. I liked "Beat It" but that was only because of Eddie Van Halen's wicked guitar solo. Other than that, as an artist, MJ didn't do it for me.
My take on him was he was someone nobody could say no to. He lost perspective and I think it drove him mad.
What's interesting is all the race hustlers and camera hogs and hangers on etc. who have gravitated to his death/funeral like ants at a picnic to pick over his last bit of fame.

Remember when Chevy Chase would announce the breaking story on SNL's Weekend Update that Spanish dictator Francisco Franco is "still dead"?

Anyone think they'll resurrect that bit?

Much was made of the fact that Jackson was the first black artist to be played on MTV.

I'm sure this was nothing more than blatant racism.

Who was the first white artist on MTV? Solo act, the Buggles don't count.

It's a horrible shame the Obamas had a previously-scheduled engagement in Russia. I would love to have seen what Michelle would have worn to the service and then listened to the days of follow on coverage about it.
