San Francisco 1906

Great bit of footage here taken from a streetcar in SF days before the famous earthquake.

What a great clip. The thing I found most fascinating was the apparent lack of rhyme and reason in traffic flow. Cars & horse-drawn carriages driving and turning wherever they pleased; pedestrians darting out from behind streetcars. Modern-day Manhattan traffic doesn't seem as bad after all...

I thought the same thing--chaotic!

Pedestrians darting out from behind streetcars? I saw one person that broke into a slight job. Everyone else took there sweet time crossing in front. Kind of like kids today playing in the street, they sure take their sweet assed time getting out of the way.

"from behind" seems to be a long held San Francisco tradition.
I know, I know...I got a million of 'em.
