Ok, let's be clear. Socialism is state ownership (or control) of the means and distribution of production. On what branch of the Socialist tree does Barrack Obama sit, who knows? But it's not important to know. Frum is arguing that Obama is well within the mainstream of American liberalism and the socialist label is a slander. Rubbish! Given Obama's background, given Obama's past associations, given Obama's performance in office, it is apparent Obama is a socialist of one variety or another, and it's not unreasonable to describe him as such.
We were talking the other day about the difference between liberals and leftists. In my view liberals want us to be like Sweden, leftists want us to be like Cuba. I believe the evidence is sufficient to say Obama is our first leftist President.
